Dear Absolutely Incredible Kids,
In my wildest dreams, I never thought that cooking would give me an opportunity to write to all of you. The doors that my passion for cooking has opened seem to be endless. And without my friends, family, and the incredible kids in my life, I never would have become the 2013 World Food Champion.
It is so important for you to find your spark, have a dream, and chase after it! When I was young, I was interested in so many different things. At some point or another, I wanted to be a doctor, lawyer, soldier, athlete, rock star, actor, and probably a dozen other things. I always dreamt of doing something incredible with my life. But once I discovered cooking as an adult, I knew I had found my passion... my spark. You may already be passionate about something and dream about spending your life doing whatever that is. Or as you grow and learn and experience new things, your dreams may change, and that is okay. As long as you find your passion and give it your all, you can succeed.
Whenever I am in a cooking competition, I always want to win. I want to be the absolute best that I can be. Sometimes the grill takes too long to light, the oven doesn't heat evenly, or the ingredients aren't exactly what the recipe calls for. When this happens, I know the finished dish may not be exactly what I'd hoped. But, it always teaches me something I can do the next time to be better. So, don't let the little setbacks keep you from your goal. Let them teach you to be the best.
Keep chasing your dreams, because only you can make them a reality! You don't have to have just one spark or passion, either. Try out many things, and find the one thing that allows you to be your best. Once you find the thing that excites you and drives you, you are well on your way to becoming a world champion!
I believe in you.
