What Does the National Youth Advisory Cabinet (YAC) Do?
YAC's Critical Roles:
- Advise National Headquarters on how to communicate with youth and teens
- Advise National Headquarters on strategies to attract new youth and teens while continuing to light the fire within current participants
- Advise National Headquarters on issues and concerns important to youth and teens
- Represent Camp Fire nationally and locally at key conferences and special events
- Adopt service projects and major initiatives that measurably advance the National YAC responsibilities, purpose, and promise
2012 National YAC Year in Review:
- Represented Camp Fire at four national conferences and events including:
- Education Commission of the state's Every Student a Citizen Summit (Chicago, IL; Philadelphia, PA; Simi Valley, CA)
- Best Buy's Geek Squad Summer Academy (Minneapolis, MN)
- Camp Fire's Promise to Practice (Atlanta, GA)
- YAC Annual Planning Meeting(Kansas City, MO)
- Interacted and made friends with teens from all across the nation
- Facilitated group discussions with senators and Board of Education Directors at the regional ECS (Education Commission of the States) summits
- Participated and mentored at the Geek Squad Summer Academy at the Best Buy Corporate Headquarters
- Sent hundreds of letters to youth in a pediatric cancer ward on Absolutely Incredible Kid Day®
- Hosted a Google Hangout at the brand new Google Fiber headquarters in Kansas City with bestselling author Barry Posner and provided feedback on The Leadership Challenge
- Created youth-targeted national marketing materials for Camp Fire
- Planned service and leadership objectives for the 2013 National Youth Leadership Experience
- Made a difference
